RN Emergency Services PRN at Southern Tennessee Regional Health
System - Pulaski summary:
The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department provides direct
and indirect patient care, applying the nursing process to manage
and educate patients and their families. Collaboration with
healthcare professionals is essential to ensure quality patient
outcomes while overseeing LPN practices. The role requires
effective communication, adaptability, and adherence to nursing
standards within a fast-paced environment.
Description:
The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department provides direct
and indirect patient care. He/She applies the nursing process to
plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and
family education and continuum of care planning. The Registered
Nurse must possess good communication skills and must be able to
effectively communicate with physicians, peers, patients and
families. He/She works collaboratively with all members of the
healthcare team to ensure quality care is delivered. Will oversee
LPN practices as directed by unit director.
Essential Functions
Providing nursing care appropriate to the condition and needs of
the patient.
Consulting and collaborating with physicians and other healthcare
professionals to provide care to the patients.
Establishing, reviewing, revising and following the patient plan of
care
Administering medications and treatments within the scope of
practice for a Registered Nurse
Recording patient care activities including assessment,
reassessment, and ongoing treatment notes within the patients'
medical record.
Using a variety of computer systems
Operating medical equipment used in the care of the patient
Providing patient and family education related to treatment,
diagnosis, medications, discharge and self-care.
Providing patient care following nursing standards of care in a
manner that promotes excellent outcomes, avoids harm to patients,
and promotes heath and healing.
Oversight of LPN practices.
Unit specific duties.
Must be able to read and communicate effectively in English
Must possess the ability to work under pressure, to adapt quickly
in changing situations, to function dependently and independently
and to be flexible in applying basic nursing knowledge to a variety
of settings.
Non-Essential Functions
Complete all assigned education in a timely manner.
Other duties as assigned.
Must complete department specific education.
Organizational Expectations
Actively participates in Foundation Safety Behavior Tools and
Tactics such as Briefs, Debriefs, Huddles, Learning Board
Activities, Executive Patient Safety Rounds and reporting of
unanticipated and unintended patient events regardless of whether
there is harm.

Job Requirements
Minimum Education
Must possess an active TN RN license or a compact state license
with the intent to obtain a TN RN license within 30 days of
hire.
Required Skills
BLS - current or must obtain within 90 days from date of hire.
ACLS - current or must obtain within 90 days from date of hire.
PALS - current or must obtain within 90 days from date of hire.
NRP - current or must obtain within 90 days from date of hire.
STABLE - current or must obtain within 90 days from date of
hire.
HWC (Handle With Care) - current or must obtain within 6 months
from date of hire.
Trauma Nursing Core Certification (TNCC) - preferred.
Emergency Nursing Pediatric Certification (ENPC) - preferred.
